I was listening to my dad's ipod and one song inspired me to write this!
None of these names are real characters!
--------
The alpha stood on a large rock watching carefully as his two pups played. His name was King, and he had to raise the pups on his own ever since his mate died. His oldest son Andy was playing with his younger brother Kalu.
His attention turned to the young orphan female that he taken in recently. She was off on her own laying under a tree. Her name was Rain. This concerned King, he had told his sons to be nice and play with her as well, Andy protested he did not like girls at all. Kalu was the one that tried to play with her whenever she lay alone.
Rain was an active young pup, she loved to tumble and roll, but Andy could care less in his mind girls are wimps no matter what they do. This didn't seem to bother Rain much, but deep inside she was torn apart she wanted to fit in, she wanted to play and wrestle too.
King jumped down from his perch to talk to Rain. He walked up to her slowly, he lowered himself next to the silver female. "Hey, Rain, why don't you go play with the guys?" he said gently nuzzling her.
Rain gazed up at the two ruff-housing males. "I just don't want to play right now." she tried to smile at King, she then lowered her head to her black paws again. "Besides they are having enough fun without me." Rain whispered, though King heard her.
King did not reply he simply followed her gaze to his sons playing. Rain reminded King of his mate, though Rain would rather play, it was just her presence that reminded him of his gentle mate.
After a few minutes of watching his sons playing, King stood up and walked over to the hyper pups. He placed his large black paw between the two. "Kalu, do you mind going to keep Rain company?" King's voice was commanding and his eyes were focused on Andy. Kalu knew why King wanted to go play with Rain, so he just nodded and ran off to the small female.
King rose up again his eyes on Andy "Come, Andy we need to talk." his voice was still hard. Andy nodded uneasily and stood to follow his father. King led Andy on the path to the woods. King's attention was focused forward. "Tell me son, why don't you like Rain?" King kept looking forward.
Andy looked up at his dad. "It's not just Rain, I just don't like any girls dad." he continued to gaze at King's black pelt wondering. King sighed, his mate would have been able to change Andy's mind. Maybe if she was around, she could show him that girls can be just the same.
"Son, why don't you like any girls?" he now looked down at his son's tan pelt. Andy thingyed his head, he wasn't really sure why he didn't like girls, he just never did. "Well dad, they are just so wimpy, and they like butterflies and girly stuff. Plus they can't fight!" Andy now pretended he was fighting. He then tripped over a some weeds. He tumbled over and landing on his chubby little tummy.
King stopped and picked his son up by the ruff of his neck, placing him on the ground carefully. He sighed again, King had told Andy many times that not all girls are like that, but he never listened. "Andy, I have told you plenty of times that not all girls are like that, maybe if you get to know Rain you will realize that she is tough and likes to wrestle."
Andy found this hard to believe, but he just nodded and continued to listen to his father, though he ignored most of it.
Once King and Andy returned, King motioned to Rain with his paw. Kalu saw his father return and bounded up to him to find out what had happened, though King was not going to worry about Kalu's questions, he focused on Andy and Rain.
Andy had walked up to Rain. He stood there looking at her wondering if those things his father had said were true, nah He sat down and faced Rain. "Rain I am sorry for um.. not asking you to play with us, so um yeah..." Andy tried not to look into Rain's deep blue eyes, but they were so intense you could not help but look at them.
Rain nodded and smiled a broad smile. "Its Ok Andy, I don't mind!" Rain giggled. "Do you wanna play?" she wagged her tail.
Andy raised a brow. "Not right now, my paws are sore, but maybe later." Andy still did not believe that girls could be tough. He turned to look at his father whom was still watching the two pups.
Rain's tail slowed to a stop. "Oh I see..." she was not as dull as Andy thought, she knew he still did not like her. Rain gave King a saddened look, as if to say nice job, not! She turned back to Andy. "Well, If your paws are tired then my legs are aching!" she stood and walked over to King. Rain snuggled into the alpha's warm fur.
Andy sat dumb-founded for a moment. He then began to feel bad for lying, but he just shook it off and went over to the family cave to sleep.
When Andy awoke it was the next morning, and King was above him with a paw on Andy's chest. "Come, my son. Today is very important!" Kind smiled and turned to go out the cave entrance. Andy stood up quickly and stretched out, he leaped after his father.
Outside Kalu was waiting for him and next to him Rain was smiling and tugging on Kalu's ears. King looked down at Andy with a large smile on his maw. "Son, today we will be going on your first hunt!" he smiled at the other two, whom had already been told the good news.
Andy frowned at King then he looked at Rain. "Dad don't take the girl! Take anyone else just not the girl!" King frowned with wide eyes. Rain's jaw dropped, she began crying and ran into the cave. Kalu gave Andy a terrible look as he followed Rain. King looked down at his son and shook his large black head.
-----------------
Same old boy same sweet girl, two years down the road. Andy and Rain lay neat to each other on the top of a hill taking in the brilliant colors of the sunset. King had appointed Andy as the alpha of the pack and Rain as the alphess. Kalu had taken the position of adviser, and he now had a mate of his own. Along with being the alpha King had given Andy a pendant that his father gave to him. Each of them looked over he pack with great satisfaction.
Andy smiled warmly as he gazed at Rain's beautiful coat. He now loved her more than anything in the world, Andy then leaned over and kissed Rain on the cheek carefully and whispered. "I love you." Rain laughed slightly and sighed with content. She turned her gaze back to the sunset, remembering the days when Andy used to not like her. It was odd to think of her mate that way, and then to think of how much they cared for each other now. Rain leaned over and snuggled into Andy's warm fur, her life was now complete. Her eyes began to flicker closed as she fell into a deep happy sleep.
Rain awoke with the faint sound of Kalu's howl in the distance. His message was unclear to her so she just shook her head and stretched out her legs. Rain looked down at Andy, watching carefully as his chest rose and fell with each breath he took. She leaned over and kissed him gently on the cheek, Rain then turned to go watch over the pack.
The alphess padded quietly through the woods, she was off to oversee the pack as usual. After a few minutes Rain emerged into the open field, where most of the pack members gathered with their families and mates. She found the rock where she would watch over the pack. It was the very same rock that King used to watch over them as pups. Once Rain was atop it Alina, the pack's official healer padded up with her litter of four trailing behind. "Hail alphess Rain! I must thank you again for allowing Deacon and I the use of your den to birth our pups!" her voice full of joy. Rain smiled and nodded. "It was my pleasure, Alina I see it was of great use!" she laughed as she gestured to the little entourage of wrestling pups.
